Dogs, Looking Up

I am so happy to share that my poem, ‘Dogs, Looking Up’ has been accepted by The Drabble. I hope to share more work with the creative writing community as the year continues!

I noticed my dog look up.
why was this act so unnatural?
There wasn’t a squirrel in the trees.
Why had he been so intrigued?

He plays from a box of actions,
motivations of which not earth shattering.
But a glimpse to the sky, leaves me questioning-
Why? This says too much about me.

I envied his joyous observation,
the self-made scientist in this family.
Where he spotted this opportunity,
I failed my curiosity.

This set in motion unexpected passion,
not knowing where my notes would lead.
I tested and believed I’d emptied,
a theory disproved by this story’s ending.

Friendship,Loyalty,Love: In that Order.

My Claddagh ring lost its charm the other day.  Literally.  But while browsing the latest "hello, I'm single" jewelry selection to adorn my now naked finger, I had to take a second to appreciate the symbolism.  Even my ring was... Continue Reading →

November 1, 8pm, in the middle of Game 6.  Text received.  Old friend from years past.  "Can you take off the next two days?"  The rest is a blur.  I was at Game 7 of the World Series, Chicago Cubs... Continue Reading →

Security Blankets, on Learning Mine

My work allows me to keep to myself most days.  I can work undisturbed for hours in the lab, nodding along to my music all the while.  But on those rare days where a company meeting requires my attendance, I... Continue Reading →

Close Your Eyes, wait no, Read this First…

Day 2, writer's block, am I right?! Basel and I started our day with a brisk walk around the neighborhood.  This in itself is rather unremarkable although this dog is one of the major highlights of any day I'm having.  No, the meat... Continue Reading →
