Dogs, Looking Up

I am so happy to share that my poem, ‘Dogs, Looking Up’ has been accepted by The Drabble. I hope to share more work with the creative writing community as the year continues!

I noticed my dog look up.
why was this act so unnatural?
There wasn’t a squirrel in the trees.
Why had he been so intrigued?

He plays from a box of actions,
motivations of which not earth shattering.
But a glimpse to the sky, leaves me questioning-
Why? This says too much about me.

I envied his joyous observation,
the self-made scientist in this family.
Where he spotted this opportunity,
I failed my curiosity.

This set in motion unexpected passion,
not knowing where my notes would lead.
I tested and believed I’d emptied,
a theory disproved by this story’s ending.

Ultimate Mood Ring – A Poem by Kendall Lynn

I witness reflections of life off oceans I often fly by. Zone out at the greatest depths, though marvel most creatures calcified. Pumpkin patches now serve snow cones which help me forget warming woes. But plants adrift across the sea... Continue Reading →

Awkward Moments

I stood awkwardly in the janitor's closet of my therapist's office for a few minutes before working up the nerve to leave.  I was worried that the foundation of positive thinking stitched together in the last 55 minutes could be tangled,... Continue Reading →

Like That – A Poem by Kendall Lynn

I bled on the snow for six blocks until I embraced the unnatural chill at my ungloved tip, followed by a pulse I imagine in moments like this. To think it must be sealing just as quickly as the sound in my mind. It's not, so I... Continue Reading →

Preparing – A Poem by Kendall Lynn

When I was a bird, I found seed beyond all of my wildest needs. But it's turned colder, the babes are older. I haven't sunflowers to feed. I always thought suitable mates were those who could talk with big gaits.... Continue Reading →

City Habitat – Haiku

Sirens resounding, 2 AM a bottle breaks. Locks are checked again.

Resist to Regret – A Poem by Kendall Lynn

Resist to reclaim- pressure builds, then caves. Soon lungs collect to fill space that was left. Resist to revive any words beyond mine. Soon fingers crack recording all I lack. Resist to believe what you say, for what I see.... Continue Reading →

Better – A Poem by Kendall Lynn

A boil builds beneath his rimless frames. The boy is all that's shared within their home. The car is warm, stilling wicked winter. Perhaps, it fades along the drive away. The boy becomes entranced by gates of snow. Inside a queen... Continue Reading →

If Rings Could Strut – A Poem

My house is a hoard of coasters.  Each night I round them up from their strut across my tables.  They multiply but most stay dry for I take in few guests these days.  Still I don't know why they spill out as a reminder.  You... Continue Reading →
