It’s deliberate not to take it black today.
I’ve learned from you to drink it this way,
though I didn’t want to give that away.
So a touch of cream upholds my charade.

I let you talk as I love to listen,
yet deep inside my thoughts are racing.
I count to ten to assure no offense.
Speak too soon, I may not see you again.

Time has flown by, tables set and reset.
And after thirty years, I feel we’ve just met.
I grew up with you, though I seem to forget
all the childhood days when we were just friends.

Do you have to get going, how bout dessert?
I start for a hug, but you’re too quick to turn.
So I’ll set my watch for a year to return
to a memory lane we can’t seem to burn.
