Mist greets my cheeks,
spirit full in a body weak.
In this moment of rebirth,
I sink closer to the earth.
Fine cuts nearly forgotten
from familiar firs once lost in.
But those little daggers damage,
leaving scars that never vanish.
Sunlight treats every inch the same,
like those scars were another’s to blame.
It’s too bright, the warmth uneasy,
who bestows a love so freely?
So I sit, consumed by guilt,
daydream of winter’s assured wilt.
And it’s ever clear I don’t deserve
the soothing sand that hugs these curves.
Would it comfort if I said,
your words resounded in my head?
Found me longing in the sea,
a home I never thought there’d be.

Very nicely written, Kendall. Scars remain, but they can heal. 😉

Thank you! It can be a slow process sometimes, but we’re a resilient species!
